Let the lawsuits begin!

After opponents of Wisconsin's reform (i.e. limitation) of public employee unions' rights, the unions tried to overturn the legislative result by going to court.  After some twists and turns, they finally lost in the state supreme court (after a hotly contested judicial election).

That pattern is now playing out in other states.  Having lost legislative battles in a host of states, the unions are now seeking to re-fight those battles in court.  First, in Indiana, the local AFSME is arguing that Governor Mitch Daniels banning of public sector collective bargaining is unconstitutional and that public employees have a state constitutional right to bargain collectively. Unions in New Jersey are now going to court to block the implementation of Governor Chris Christie's pension and healthcare reforms.  Look for unions to challenge the reforms working there way through the legislature in Michigan, which would force public employees to pay more for their healthcare and limit the subjects of collective bargaining.
