Gov. worker absentee rates in R.I. soar

The Rhode Island local online newspaper Golocalprov.com picked up on my posting several weeks ago about high absentee rates among public sector workers across America and added some local reporting. In a piece published today the news organization reports that data from the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training show that there were nearly two reports of illness or injury per 100 public sector workers in the state, compared to just 1.3 per 100 in the private. Moreover, the report found the rate in the public sector has soared over the last five year, nearly doubling. Below is the chart I ran a few weeks ago comparing rates in the private sector and public sector.
